Hi, Dr. Dombrowski and Happy New Year!!!

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I had the stimulator implanted.  Do I need to schedule a routine maintenance appointment with you?  I have to tell you, this continues to be a life changer for me.  I am now walking between 15-18 miles a week.  That kind of activity still triggers headaches, but now, I just crank up the machine and forget about it.  Before, I'd have to cut my walks short and be prepared to pack my head in ice and take some Motrin for the inevitable head pain.  I haven't felt so good since I had the acoustic neuroma surgery.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding help you have provided to my mother. She was experiencing severe hip and leg pain, but her discomfort has been significantly reduced through your expert treatments. As much as your expertise, I admire your cheerful demeanor, patience, kindness, and great listening skills, as well as your efficiency—all of the above inspire us to have great confidence in you and have brought us much comfort. Wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving.

Gratefully,
Anne MC (for Margaret M.)

When I went to doctor Dombrowski I was at the end of my pain threshold of a constant 8 (Scale 0-10, 10 worst) for over a year.  The pain was at my lower back L3/L4 with shooting pain and numbness down the back of each thigh.  Standing and walking made it worse.

I had had the epidurals, the physical therapy, acupuncture and various “specialists” applying their trade, none worked and several made it worse!  My next step was to undergo spinal surgery that would apply decompression of the L3/L4 followed with bone fusion using titanium pins & rods.  This terrified me!

Then I was referred to Dr. Dombrowski who administered Lumbar Facet injections at my lower spine.
After the first visit I noticed a substantial decrease in pain.  The pain of 8 went down to a 5/6 and I could begin walking erect!  After the second visit I experienced an additional decrease of pain down to a 3/4 with no pain or numbness down my thighs.

I just finished my third and final visit and feel NO pain which is a “new” experience for me.  I’m now talking with my golfing buddies about playing again (it’s been 2 years).  And when you are not in pain you are naturally motivated to walk and exercise again.  I’m on a good path.

Thank you Dr. Dombrowski.

Hi Dr. D, my mom had the surgery and is so much better. That said we were really happy with the care she received from you (though long needles notwithstanding!) Can you use this message to let all potential patients know that you are a doctor who truly listens and does his best by his patients. The fact that we did not have to wait long to see you when we had an appointment was also another major plus. We also did not feel rushed once we got in, as I for one always have a lot of questions, and you patiently answered each one even pulling out those plastic models to make it clear. Thanks again for your exemplary care.

Happy New Year. Just wanted to let you know the last adjustment is working beautifully. I am able to do so much, and my pain breakthrough is less. We flew to Lisbon in late November and spent two days sightseeing. Lisbon is hilly, and I was able to climb a few of them very well. We then set sail for two weeks, ending up in three cities in Brazil - - the final one Rio de Janeiro. In Recife, Brazil the small tour bus for our special group, was not working well, so they switched us to a large one. Our travel agent was thrilled as it allowed us more space. What she did not realize, however, was that the bus couldn't go on the narrow streets to the oldest part of the city. So, we walked up zigzag streets to the top, and then down. Boy, did I give my SCS a workout, but was able to keep up with the group and do well.

I had a scare in Rio. The day we left the ship we were sightseeing on flat ground leaving a park and I tripped over a bulge in the tarmac. I went down hard face-forward. I had to go to a clinic for x-rays and a scan. I lay on the ground and was afraid to move till I knew my wires and batteries had survived the impact. So did my 7 titanium screws and connecting rods! Luckily nothing was broken, but I was a mess. I got on the plane to fly home 11 hours later with a black eye, bandages on my right cheek and side of my nose, bandages on my right hand, wrist and elbow. Both knees took a terrible impact, and are still sore enough that I cannot kneel. I was so lucky that I was not seriously hurt! It made me mad, however, because I had watched my step on all the uneven cobblestone streets, sidewalks, and boarding cable cars and tram railway cars.

I did get a cold at Christmas and called Dr. Dombrowski because I developed a headache and it wouldn't go away. I thought maybe the vibration was interfering with my migraine medicine. He said no and prescribed a few strong pills, but unfortunately they did not work. I had a headache for over two weeks, and ended up with infected sinuses and terrible coughing. Again, my SCS has been a miracle because the coughing hurt my whole trunk and down my legs to my knee. After a month, the coughing is just about gone -- but I had a tough time. It would have been worse if I did not have the SCS because my coughing will wake the dead and often makes people think I am on my way out or are going to pass on the plague or some horrible disease.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know how well things are going. I have had a number of patients over the phone and by email from Michelle, but things have slowed down this month. Please let me know if you ever need a "patient" for any group discussion. I am hoping that I might see a health fair or something in DC, MD or VA that I could participate in or visit and spread the word.
